Address:
17985 Armada Center Rd, Armada, MI 48005
Overall Rating:
6/10 Stars
Total Costs:
$146.56
Cost Breakdown (tax included):
- Required: Funland (with over 25 attractions): $20.95 per person.
For 3 people, the total cost (including a $0.50 Caramel Apple Sucker because I am a kid and need my suckers *smiles*) is $63.35. - Food: $51.90 for 3 meals (burger, chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, 3 sodas)
and $28.80 for snacks (2 hot chocolates, 1 cider, and 12 donuts).
Pros:
- No additional fees for paying with a credit card.
- Plenty to do — you’ll stay busy for several hours.
- The location is beautiful, set right in the middle of the country, and parking meets demand.
- Security is visible and friendly.
- Although I’m not a fan of petting farms, the animals appeared healthy and active. The staff seemed attentive, and none of the animals were just lying around.
- The corn maze is actually a maze — I got lost!
- They have a cute little haunted house.
Cons:
- If you don’t like crowds, this isn’t the place for you.
- The workers weren’t very friendly during our visit, and this has been consistent across a few trips. It felt like there weren’t enough staff to meet the crowd’s needs — the restaurant wait time was 3 hours (and that was at 1 p.m.!). I don’t necessarily blame the workers for their attitudes; they probably felt overwhelmed. Still, I value good customer service, and this time, it was a dealbreaker for me.
- The attractions are not handicap accessible. You’d struggle with strollers, walkers, or wheelchairs since everything is set up in a field. The front area with the stores has sidewalks, but that’s about it.
- Eat before you go — the food wasn’t worth the price.
Summary:
My biggest struggle with Blake’s was the crowd size. My anxiety gets bad when in public areas with a lot of people in. We stayed for about three hours, and while it was fine, I’m not sure it was worth it for me personally. If my daughter and her friend were younger, I probably would’ve gotten more out of it. When I consider the cost, it’s worth it if you don’t factor in the food. There is a lot of walking involved so wear the right shoes. I didn’t and 3 days later, I am still paying for it.
Here’s the interesting part — I’ve been here three times and have never once had fresh cider and donuts. The donuts come boxed, and the cider is poured from a container. I’m sure one of the buildings might sell fresh ones, but I wasn’t about to wait three hours in line to find out. Honestly, I could’ve gone to Meijer and gotten the same thing for less. So, I went to a Cider Mill and did not get fresh cider.
That said, I’d still recommend this spot for families with young children. There’s a lot to do, and it’s easy to give them that “best day ever” kind of experience. You can tell the owners care — the place is clean, and there are plenty of staff and security/police walking around if you need help. One officer even commented on my Fourth Wing sweatshirt, which gave me a good laugh. (If you know, you know. 😊)
Would I come back again?
I’ve been a few times, mostly because others wanted to go. It’s not somewhere I’d make a yearly tradition, but it’s definitely a great spot for families with younger kids to visit. It is worth going too at least once.
